本冊課程的內容乃依照十二個主題及外語教學的標準，編寫成趣味性的課文和故事。如：王小毛看報紙、標點符號很重要、猴子撈月、后羿與嫦娥、南瓜燈籠、海洋世界、龍宮取寶、絲巾、絲路和嫘祖的故事、北風與太陽、老鼠娶新娘、端午節與賽龍舟、我要幫助爺爺、買不到的禮物、美國是我的國家、大家都愛吃飯等。全冊共十課，每課含：1.課文2.語文/會話練習3.連環畫故事。教學方法運用3 mode 教學理念加強聽、說、讀、寫的均衡發展。

1. 訓練學生講故事為第一目標：要能講課本中的十個故事。

2. 訓練學生朗讀：要能朗讀課文中的古詩和短文。

3. 訓練學生閱讀：能夠流利地讀課文。

4. 生字詞的學習：本冊有 137 個生字和 264個常用生詞，生詞會說即可，生字能默寫。

5. 成語練習：選取 30-50 個 (學生需要能理解和語用，不要求讀寫) 。
